James has over 15 years of experience in financial and organizational leadership. As a CFO, he focuses on building financial strategies, improving transparency, and overseeing accounting, budgeting, and risk management. He has managed multi-million-dollar budgets and led teams through major organizational changes, ensuring financial systems support both immediate operations and long-term sustainability.

His background includes modernizing financial infrastructure by implementing and integrating management platforms, including general ledger, payroll, and database systems—as well as specialized software for Health Records Management (HRM) and medical billing. James is also well-versed in navigating complex regulatory environments, including HIPAA compliance and the administration of federal awards as a subrecipient.
As the owner and founder of James Carpenter, CPA PLLC, he provides individual and business taxation, business consulting, and fractional CFO services. Outside of his work with PowerMax, he serves as a fractional CFO for multiple companies and organizations.
James holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Arizona and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Arizona. Dedicated to community service, he also serves as Treasurer for the Arizona Center for Disability Law and Chair of the City of Sedona Grants Work Group.
